A tête-à-tête with Marissa Williamson Pohlman

Australian boxer, Marissa “Riss” Pohlman, took time out of her busy training schedule to chat to us about her countdown to Paris! As part of Les Lumières BLEU: The countdown to Paris, we chatted with Marissa about the build up to Paris, what the Olympics means to them and what they are looking forward to in Paris.

Marissa’s incredible journey began when she discovered boxing as a way to escape a difficult childhood marked by foster care and homelessness. Boxing quickly became her passion and transformed her life as she embarked on amateur boxing career at just 17 years old.

The turning point in Riss’ career came when she received the prestigious 2021 Sport Australia Hall of Fame scholarship, which provided the financial support she needed to pursue her dreams. Riss draws her strength from her coach Kel Bryant OAM.

Marissa is the first ever Aboriginal woman to qualify for the Olympics in the sport of boxing.

Thank you for the chat Riss!

A tête-à-tête with Martine George

What it’s like being an Aussie on the French Gymnastics team? We asked coach Martine George when we caught up with her as part of the Les Lumières BLEU: The countdown to Paris.

We found out what life in Paris is like, what the major cultural differences are, what she is looking forward to with the Games and who we should be watching out for.

Having coached the Australian team and attending many international competitions, Martine is no stranger to the world stage – but what will it like having a ‘home’ Games?

We talked this and more when we caught up with Martine during the French team’s training sessions.
